About Basil

When you ask Basil what he thinks about himself, he'll tell you he is incredibly lucky. He has family he loves dearly, friends and colleagues who inspire him, and every day he gets to care for trees, soil, and flowers. He loves working with his hands to heal land, building an organization that brings good to its community, and using his creativity to convince others to embrace new ideas. He hopes to leave things just a little better than when he arrived.

He pursues his purpose and passions as the co-founder of Leaf & Limb, a Nature-first tree and land care company based in Raleigh, NC, and Project Pando, a non-profit that aims to connect people to trees. Leaf & Limb was the first in the tree service industry to become a Certified B Corporation and the first to stop offering tree removal services. He is a Treecologist, ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, Duke graduate, and Wizard of Things. He is also the author of From Wasteland to Wonder - Easy Ways We Can Help Heal Earth in the Sub/Urban Landscape, which helps homeowners heal Earth where they live and offers a vision for how the tree and landscaping industries can evolve. When he's not having fun at work, he likes to make his wife laugh, contemplate on his front porch, and go hiking with his family.

Pardon what comes next. Apparently, the recognition heuristic matters, so here goes: his work has been featured in a variety of outlets, including The New York Times, Wild Ones, Radio New Zealand, Homegrown National Park, Martha Stewart Living, Treehugger, Forbes, Audubon, HGTV, Gardenista, The Joe Gardener Show, A Way to Garden with Margaret Roach, Harvard Divinity School, and many others listed below.
